Playing Better Soccer

Meticulous practice, an improved sense of controlling the ball and effective use of the multitude soccer skills during a game differentiates players who can play "better" soccer from average players who can merely "kick a ball". If you want to become one of the better soccer players around you need to adopt lightning quick attacking skills, fearless defensive capabilities, powerful shooting techniques, long or short passing confidence and last but not least, ultimate control over the ball.

Finding the right people to teach you "team" soccer is another important aspect of the game.  Soccer is truly a team sport.  One player on a team who is VERY good will not be able to carry the team to a win by themselves. A soccer coach not only trains players in basic soccer skills, but also teaches an understanding of the game.  Getting a "soccer sense" and understanding of how the game is and should be played is as much a part of the game as ball control. The soccer coach determines the game strategy and subsequently the player's formation.

Repeated and incessant practice and application of soccer skills are necessary to play better soccer. Mastering the many different skills necessary to play soccer is the only way you have any chance of playing soccer for a university or becoming a professional.

There are some general techniques, which are required irrespective of the position. Taking long shot, running even without the ball to make space for other teammates, tackling an opponent, controlling the ball with your chest, thigh and shin are some common techniques of playing soccer. These are all skills that have to be practiced time and time again to master and for them to become instinctive.

Apart from practice, you have to maintain your body in a state of good physical condition. Proper nutrition off the field is as important as learning soccer skills.  My daughter has a soda about once every two years or so and she is always concerned about getting a proper balance of proteins and carbs.  When she doesn't eat right she notices it out on the field.
