More Things You Should Know About Soccer
There will be times when you will need private instruction or outside help with
injuries. The main thing that you need to know about youth soccer (if you want to
get good at it) is that practice is the key to having success in soccer. If you look at most of the top
players in today's game, they're people who work hard for the skills they show in the game. They don't learn all of
those skills from their coach or on the practice field with their team either. More often than not they
are taking their training to levels beyond the team's sessions.
David Beckham said that he spent several hours each and every week outside of
his training, practicing his brilliant free kicks. Juninho Pernambucano, one of today's formost long
range snipers practices shots after hours. And Ronaldinho or Cristiano Ronaldo's dribbling skills weren't all
obtained during team practice! They are the result of long hours spent with the ball in their backyard or the
local park.
So if you're striving to become a better soccer player, take it from the people who make it
look easy, practice using soccer drills, either individually or pairing up with a teammate. The only way
to get really good at handling or firing a soccer ball with your feet and legs and shoulders and head is to
get lots and lots of touches on a ball.
Here is a rundown of some of the basic things that might be good for you to
know.
- Foot Skill (Touch)
- Heads Up Play
- Speed and Agility
- Fitness
- Thinking (or Not Thinking!)
